Cecile Jacobs:
set designs and wall hangings

Malaysia Portière & Path "The superb set design from Cecile Jacobs is a wonder..."
(Edmonton Journal)

a) ISLAMIC PORTIERE: Homage Malaysia: 111' high; 68' wide.

For three years (2006-08), the artist travelled and worked throughout Asia and the Pacific. She marvels at Asia’s spectacular variety, both of nature and of man-made spiritual artifacts, all peacefully and harmoniously co-existing.

This piece is inspired by the Islamic architecture and art of Kuala Lumpur. The Islamic Star and other authentic Islamic motifs are created here in embroidery, acrylic paint and shisha mirrorwork.

b) Savitri’s Path of Flowers:
111" high; 32" wide*

The pathway beyond “the portal soon passed”. This piece is inspired by the tale of Savitri in The Mahabharata. Savitri explained her path of flowers in terms of the elements which create a fulfilled life. Here, this pathway is the artist’s fantasy of her own favourite elements. It is created with a combination of acrylic paint, applique, traditional and Brazilian embroidery, ribbonwork and stumpwork.
